The mental aspect behind obtaining the perfect wedding dress

Hey brides to be!

If you are reading this article, you must be feeling quite overwhelmed with the endless choices of bridal dress there are available on the internet. The purpose of this article is to try and ease you through the process of picking a dress by sharing with you some of my personal experience as a past bride and owner of a boutique.

1. Too much ‘inspiration’ can lead to a lack of ‘inspiration’:

Just because I am the owner of Aunchalee Boutique, I am not immune from feeling that rush of joy and excitement when I was first proposed to. The little girl in me got so inspired, I started scouring the internet in search for inspiration for what would end up being the dream dress I never wore.

Confused? Don’t be. When you have hundreds and hundreds of ‘inspirations’ to comb through, you start getting very confused. Confusion led to frustration which then led to a creative mental block.

My solution? I turned to my sister and Pnina for my Thai and Western wedding dress. Thanks to them I ended up wearing my dream wedding dress.

Friends and family can help, but not when you have to deal with ten different opinions. 😉

In certain cultures, your marriage may mean just as much to your parents as it means to you thus, your event…may not be your event.. If this applies to you, ensuring your mom is present in person or via video is always a good thing. Our mothers can always help cross-check the style to see if it is suitable for the guests that you will be greeting.

2. Be open to ideas:

Most times, what you envisioned in your mind and saw in pictures does not necessarily suit you. Photos are designed to communicate the mood and tone of the designer. What tends to happen is we end up discarding ideas that we think do not match us because the picture doesn’t portray the image we like. More often than not, that dress could have been the perfect dress for you!

Be open to ideas and let the professionals guide you step by step, even if it means trying on a dress you think does not suit you! Inspiration can be taken from anywhere, anytime!

3. WEAR what makes you FEEL good and LOOK good:

It is a once in a lifetime event full of joyful emotions, why do you want to compromise your emotions for a dress that may look good on you but doesn’t fully express who you are or allow you to move comfortably?!

Don’t ever compromise comfort because the dress will be on you for a long time!

4. He loves you for who you are :

I understand that every bride wants to look their best on the big day but don’t forget that being happy is the most important. Your face glows when you are happy, not when you are always hungry, tired, and stressed!

As an owner of a bridal shop I can tell you that losing too much weight can have a negative impact on the look and fit of your dress.

5. Don’t leave it to the last minute

As your big day draws closer, your level of stress naturally increases. Your dress shouldn’t be the last thing on your list. It’s one of the most important item on your to-do list as it will be the highlight of the event. Allow yourself time to let your creative juice flow and trust us to help make your dream dress a reality.

I sincerely hope that this article has been useful for you in someway. In any case, I am here to help so if you live in Thailand and you have any other questions – you can find me here!

With lots of love,
Chrissy
